Building a Sustainable Future Through Connection

Tweende means "let's go!" in many Zambian languages — embodying our spirit of collective movement toward sustainable food systems through agroecology.

Our Story

A Collaborative Initiative for Change

Launched in June 2025, Tweende is a direct response to Zambia's converging crises of climate vulnerability, degraded soils, and systemic policy gaps. The initiative is anchored by the Zambia Alliance for Agroecology and Biodiversity (ZAAB) in partnership with Grassroots Trust (GRT) and Mulungushi University (MU), with support from the Agroecology Fund.

By combining grassroots farmer-led learning, academic research, and strategic advocacy, Tweende works to advance agroecology as a viable and necessary alternative to industrial agriculture in Zambia.

ZAAB Leadership

Our Core Values

The principles that guide every aspect of our work and partnerships.

01

Collaboration

We believe systemic change requires strategic partnerships. Our work is built on the combined strength of farmers, civil society, academia, and traditional leaders.

02

Community-led Action

Real change grows from the ground up. We prioritise farmer-led learning, local knowledge, and community ownership of all initiatives.

03

Evidence-based Advocacy

Our advocacy for policy change is rooted in rigorous, participatory research and tangible results from demonstration hubs.

04

Rootedness in Tradition

We recognise and champion traditional, indigenous knowledge systems as scientifically valid and essential to climate resilience.

We focus on practical, working solutions that build ecological health, economic viability, and community strength, fostering a sense of hope and possibility.
